Just Like Honey
Thailand is beautiful. Such a bright, welcoming people were most notable against the large, non-emotive visiting population from Russia. The flights were more expensive than the rest of our two-week accommodations. As such, for the first time in a long time, we were able to allow hours in the day, not baht in our pockets, provide the parameters for participation and indulgence.
I have what feels like a thousand pictures from a beautiful honeymoon. And hilarious, awkward, embarrassing, and endearing stories to match. It's what you imagine a honeymoon to be: a relaxing getaway solely focused on enjoying your lifelong partner away from your daily stresses; an opportunity to learn more deeply how to satisfy the needs and desires of your mate. It is also an intense crash course in troubleshooting, improvisation and introspection.
Surprising to me, but not other married folk, was that the break in paradise was not without spats, annoyances, and airing of past grievances. Why ain't nobody tell me?! So many of us build hopes, dreams and expectations based on others' curated highlight reels, not understanding normal expressions of growth are sometimes painful. Ain't nothing wrong with you. Just keep swimming! Passion is in the deep, wisdom on the other side.
The theme for our getaway became #youknowwhoyoumarried:
- Why must you have the shower on boiling??
- Do you really have to make sure your jewelry matches for us to go to continental breakfast downstairs?
- Do you think it's wise for us to binge Black Mirror in one sitting?
- Do you always play music when you go to the bathroom?
- Are you done sipping off this 5 day old wine now?
On one of our most fun days exploring on a four-island tour off the coast of Krabi, my mister allowed me and my black suit to take center stage. Week of White is no more. Wives can be sexy, and the one-piece is here to stay. Blessed to be with someone who lets me be me, entertains my foolery, and continually speaks life against my insecurities.
Relationships are sticky. But purity of intent allows the sweet to overshadow the mess.
